Description

Hi, I don't know where to post this, since it's actually 60% painted, 40% photo/photo manipulation. I used and old painting (6 months old) for this, the face is John Locke (from lost) and I used a picture of a cathedral for the background (I almost entirely painted over it).

Used my tablet+ps cs2.

Nice mood and lighting....the left part is very good, the face could use more work....but I am not a painter.

the contrast between the face and the background in paint quality is to much and makes it look like you have painted on top of a photo. I did paint over photos long time ago and when I think about it know I think it limited me in that I had a hard time to go beyond the photo which already contains a "composition" and lighting.

I struggle a lot with just getting proportions right but I think you learn more from painting from scratch.

Yes I know I am not quite pleased with it so I did this once, no more T.T

i agree, the background and the foreground don't flow together very smoothly, because the background is so detailed and the face of the man really pales in comparison. i think the painting would've been much better if you had tried to paint the background instead, because then it would've been a consistent style throughout the whole piece. i do like how you did the face, the colors and the wrinkles look really good. i think you should try your own thing instead of supporting yourself on photos ;)
also, since the artwork contains photo parts, i think it's best to put it in photo manip
good work, i'm looking forward to seeing more!
